- Project Name: Electrical Upgrades at James A. Haley VA Hospital
- Location: Tampa, FL
- Client: Department of Veteran Affairs/ CR Kurtz Co
- Industry: Institutional / Federal
- Size: Steam, Fuel Oil & Natural Gas Piping Approx. $1 Million
Project Description: This project was focused around a massive electrical infra-structure upgrade that would provide James Haley VA hospital with full, on-site back-up power in case of a natural disaster. MIELKE’s scope included the complete fuel oil system required for the large Caterpillar diesel generators that would power the entire hospital. We installed new double wall storage tanks along with day tanks, pumping systems, fill stations and all associated piping. We also prefabricated 12″ piping systems and installed large exhaust silencers for each generator. Approximately three-quarters of the way through the project the VA doubled the scope of our work and we installed another bulk storage tank and several additional generators. MIELKE’s scope also included some steam and natural gas upgrades inside of the hospital. These required shut-downs that left the hospital without critical utilities needed for operations and sterilizations. Each shut-down was meticulously planned, carefully executed and safely completed on or ahead of schedule.
